Girls Only!

Some people seem to think that everyone with a bleeding disorder is a boy, but we know differently. In fact more and more girls are getting involved and we thought you deserved a part of the site just for you.

Let's face it, there are a few things that just the girls have to deal with.

Maybe you're worried because you know you're a carrier of haemophilia (if your dad has it), or you don't know yet if you are (brother has it). Some girls who carry haemophilia can have symptoms themselves, like bad nosebleeds and bruising easily.

Of course, both girls and boys get von Willebrand's. Girls and boys may have nosebleeds, bruising, and might bleed for a long time from small cuts. Experts think there could be nearly 300,000 women and girls in the UK who have von Willebrand's and don't know it! This is because it doesn't always affect people that much.

But the main thing is of course your periods. Check out the Period Confidential section for all you need to know on this!

Help us! We are working on a new booklet for young girls with bleeding disorders and once the information is available we will add it to this section. If you would like to help with the booklet or would like to receive a final version please get in touch. Contact us using the details on the home page.

If you want to ask any questions about anything on this section of the site you can use the Ask a Nurse section. If you'd prefer, why not go onto the Women Bleed Too site and use the message board there? It's been set up especially for women and girls to share their experiences.
